Wonka Craziness!

Wonka Craziness!

The past couple of weeks have been cuh-ray-zee!! That’s why it’s been so quiet here on TCG. Sorry about that!

My daughter is playing Veruca Salt in Willy Wonka at The Riverdale Y. Besides crazy rehearsal schedules, I’ve been photographing the show and coordinating a Golden Ticket event.   I’ll share photos from the actual show next week but wanted to tell you about the golden ticket event. Some of the details could easily be applied to a candy or Willy Wonka themed party.

During intermission at past shows, they’ve always had a concession table where snacks and candy are sold – usually straight out of the boxes they came in. Willy Wonka is such a fun theme I thought it was a perfect opportunity to liven up the concession area.

First to add color I made a banner of colorful cardstock cut into triangles.

I wish I could take credit for this next idea but I found it on Tip Junkie. Giant lollipops made from balloons and gift wrap tubes painted white. So fun!

I also got colorful pinwheels (at a dollar store) and scattered them around the table area.

For the table I used white table cloths on the bottom and layered with colorful patterned fabric on top.  I had colorful baskets, boxes and bowls from past parties so they worked perfectly.

We also had our own Golden Ticket event.  I designed these chocolate bar wrappers – the show logo on front and the cast list on the back.

I designed these golden tickets and “Winner” tags for the prizes.

8 golden tickets were hidden in the bars.  It was like the show reenacted  – so fun watching the faces in anticipation of finding a golden ticket!  The golden ticket represented various prizes we gathered ranging from gift cards to local businesses to autographed Willy Wonka t-shirts signed by the cast.

The event was so fun we decided to do it again during the performances on Sunday.

I also helped with creating the chocolate bar wrappers and golden tickets that were going to be used as props for the show.

So many details go into these shows – it’s crazy!  It’s been a really fun experience!  Can’t wait to show you photos from the show.  The set was so creative, the costumes looked amazing and the actors were so talented!

Are you a Willy Wonka fan?  Have you ever thrown a Willy Wonka or candy themed party?  Tell us about it!
