How was everyone’s weekend? Good I hope. Did you do anything special for Father’s Day? I got white mugs from Michael’s for my girls to decorate and fill with chocolates to give to the hubbs. They enjoyed making it and he enjoyed receiving it so I guess it was a success!
As I’ve mentioned, recently my daughter was in a really fun show – Willy Wonka playing the part of Veruca Salt. There were 6 performances at a theater at The Riverdale Y. The cast was divided in 2 so each cast had 3 times to perform. The part was MADE for her!!! Surprisingly though, she’s more of a Veruca at home in her everyday life than she was on stage!
For a while, our lives were completely consumed with rehearsals, putting together the Golden Ticket event and photographing the show. All of this mixed with end of school year craziness (which is still going on!).
The director Ben Becher really wanted to take the theme of Imagination through all aspects of the show. The set was colorful, yet nothing that was “in your face” Wonka. He used colors, lights, doors and fabric to take you through the story.
Photographing live theater is definitely challenging. The lights are always changing on stage and the different colors are reflecting off of the skin tones. Is her face supposed to look purple?? Definitely makes for lots of post processing time!
A few photos from the show…

The Pink Boat
“Here squirrelly, squirrel”
“I want a party…”
After the last performance, she came home and bawled her eyes out wishing there was more.
While Wonka may be over, there’s always another show around the corner.
Stay tuned!!
