Last week I mentioned that I was going to photograph the show City of Angels performed at The Riverdale Y.
Normally when I photograph a show, I like to do it during dress rehearsal This way I get to move around the theater, get different angles and not worry that I am in anyone’s way. This time however there was a snowstorm on the night of dress rehearsal. There goes that plan!
I instead went on opening night – got there early and grabbed a seat off to the side in the front row – hopefully not annoying any of the audience members with my camera!
The show City of Angels is a 1940’s film noir style musical. The lighting is really important in the film noir style – very dramatic! I definitely noticed a difference from the other shows I photographed and I think this one is definitely more my style. Some of the photos I processed in black and white to mimic the black and white version of the show. (there was a color and black and white side)
Here are some of my favorites…
Check out the City of Angels gallery on the Riverdale Rising Stars website to see the rest of the photos from the show.
What do you think of film noir??
