Today is my little one’s last day of preschool and my older daughter finishes up her school on Tuesday. This school year went unusually fast this year! There’s not even much of a break until the end of the summer because camp already starts next week. Even though it’s day camp and not sleepaway there’s still lots of prep!
There’s another person in this family going to camp this summer also…ME!!
Not as a camper, of course, (wouldn’t that be funny!!) but as a teacher and director.
I’m so flattered that I was asked to be one of the teaching artists for the Broadway on The Hudson Camp at The Riverdale Y.
It’s a theater and performing arts camp but this summer they are offering workshops in other areas such as… can you guess??? Photography!!
The overall theme this summer is Nature, so besides the obvious nature shots, we’ll discuss using natural light, getting natural expressions and natural poses as well. At the end of the season I’ll work with each kid to make their own scrapbook so they could journal their summer camp experience and have something to look back on during the year.
Wednesday night we had parent orientation for The BOH Camp. I got to meet the other teaching artists and I have to say, I was blown away with the talent in that room!! All of the teachers are working professionals in the arts with impressive backgrounds. They even had interesting VOICES – very theatrical! Compared to my NY nasal sounding voice.
“Which one here is not like the others?…”
Once the BOH camp is over, I’ll be directing a one week Photography Camp in August from the 15th through the 19th for kids ages 9 to 12.
I’m so excited about this program! I think it’s going to be so much fun. We have field trips planned to The Bronx Zoo, Wave Hill and a local newspaper to speak with their on-staff photographer. The week will end with a special gallery show with printed and matted photos from the kids.
I’m so busy getting everything planned for both camps. If you have a little shutter bug that may be interested in spending some time with me exploring photography, you can get more details on The Riverdale Y website or feel free to leave a comment and I’ll answer any questions you may have.
Have a great weekend!
