My Weekend: Chicken + A New Colander

My Weekend: Chicken + A New Colander

By the title my weekend sounds so exciting, doesn’t it?

It was actually a pleasant weekend I have to say. On Saturday I had a table at a holiday gift fair at my daughters’ school promoting the last week of Holiday Mini Photo Sessions as well as having accordion books and photographs available for purchase. My table was next to a friend of mine so we had a chance to have a nice chat.

Later that night my sister and I went out to do a little holiday shopping.  I of course ended up with something for myself.   Something I have no need for and will never use for it’s intended purpose – a ceramic colander.

As soon as I saw it though I knew I had to have it and when I showed my sister she said “Oh yeah, that’s so you”.  I just love the sweet daisies and the muted teal color.  I don’t know what I’ll end up doing with it but for ow it’s on a stack of books in my office.  Do you often buy things “just because” ?

On Sunday I went food shopping which probably sounds super boring but it had been a while that I had done major food shopping for our home. The hubbs and I have been really busy with work projects so we were just picking things up here and there. It just doesn’t seem to work. So I took the time to go to one of my favorite markets in the area called Garden Gourmet. If you’re familiar with Fairway, just think of a mini version of that.

Before I went I actually tried a new concept (at least to me it was) – I PLANNED my dinners for the week! Have you ever done that? I think i really like it. Now I’m a little less stressed over the whole “what’s for dinner?” thing that starts as soon as you wake up every morning. I’m organized and my pantry is full. Such a great feeling!

Last night I made a real dinner – seems like it had been weeks since that happened. I made Giada’s Garlic & Citrus Chicken, homemade stuffing and broccoli. This chicken is a winner! You have to make it! Can I tell you, I had to literally CUT OFF my 5 year old after 3 rounds!   I was afraid she was going to eat the entire chicken!   It’s that good.

I stay pretty close to the recipe but instead of using frozen orange juice concentrate, I just use orange juice and I also use dried oregano instead of fresh.

Let me know if you end up making it.

How was your weekend?  As exciting as mine?

Ooo that chicken looks really good! I do buy things “just because” but recently they’ve been of the clothing variety. Once upon a time I swooned over kitchen things though. I think I just ran out of room!
I’ve been planning my meals every week for years. If I don’t do it, or don’t have time to shop, I feel like my life is slipping out of control. Meal planning is a necessity for me. Keeps me feeling like no matter how crazy it gets at least I know whats for dinner. If you like planning your meals try making some slow cooker dishes. Not only is the meal planned in advance, it’s waiting for you after a long day of work!

I’ve been hearing a lot about the slow cooker. I may have to break down and get one!
