Last weekend, we were in Staten Island for my husband’s aunt and uncle’s 50th wedding anniversary. Of course I brought my camera, thinking I’d take photos of my girls but when I saw there was no “official” photographer for the event, I decided to appoint myself the “unofficial official” photographer.
The event was at The Staaten – a favorite catering hall among Staten Islanders. Since the hubbs and I have been together I’ve probably been to at least 4 events there so I already knew the drill.
The afternoon sun was gleaming through the windows, bouncing off the wood panelled walls giving the room a warm glow. I didn’t even need to use my flash which was perfect because I always prefer to use natural light whenever possible.
When photographing events (even if you don’t hire a photographer) I think it’s important to remember to get the details. Years later when you look back at your photos, it’s nice to also remember what you ate, the flowers, decorations – it’s what makes up the complete story.
So, here goes…
The happy couple…
The Details
Regina’s daughter had these personalized cookies made up to give as party favors
The grandchildren snuck into Regina & Joe’s house to steal some photos to produce a heartfelt slideshow
generating both laughter
and tears
This is a musical family!
Aside from the DJ,
we were also entertained by the grandchildren.
Even my husband’s father got into the act singing an old Italian melody with Regina & Joe’s daughter Gina on keyboard.
Of course there was lots of food
and drinks. I lost count at how many Shirley Temples this one had, but when she started break dancing, I knew it was time to cut her off!
Lots of dancing (what’s a party without the Electric Slide?!?)
The DJ even managed to play Lady Gaga. Fess up – which one of you sisters requested it!!
There was also smooching,
cake
and the Venetian Table (dessert).
There was definitely a cannoli (or two) with my name on it!
In case you didn’t get your fill, you can check out more of Regina & Joe’s shindig on this slideshow.

Your dessert table looked delicious. Do you mind telling me from which bakery you ordered your canollis from?

Hi Joanna, I think they came from Renato’s Pastry Shoppe in Staten Island.
