We are so way overdue for a chip chat!
About a month ago, I was on the hunt to find the three Lay’s flavor finalists from the contest they are running to pick a new flavor. The three finalists are Siracha, Cheesy Garlic Bread and Chicken and Waffles. I finally found some one day at Target and Stop n Shop.
That was a month ago though. I think they are out of circulation by now.
We were having some chip loving friends over for dinner so I thought that would be a perfect time for a chip tasting event!
It was such a build up and we were all so excited and hopeful to really love these new flavors.
The results however, weren’t very good.
Let’s start with the worst – Chicken and Waffles. This was UNANIMOUS! HATED it! It basically tasted like maple syrup with a weird after taste. I mean really, when was the last time you poured maple syrup over your potatoes? it just doesn’t go! Way too sweet and not enough salt. The next day I had a few more friends over to try and I couldn’t even give the bag away. We ended up throwing those out. That’s pretty bad.
When we initially tasted the other two flavors – Siracha and Cheesy Garlic Bread, it was kind of a draw I was expecting to LOVE the cheesy garlic bread ones but alas, I didn’t.
Comments from the group were as follows:
Siracha: “Feels like a volcano erupted on my tongue”
Cheesy Garlic Bread: “Too cheesy and not in a good way”, “Garlic tasted fake”, “Weird after taste” , “Not bad when eaten together with the Siracha”
Chicken and Waffles: “YUCK!”
After eating them for a while though, we decided we liked the Siracha the best, however we won’t be going out to buy any of these flavors again. All in all it was a big disappointment. I was surprised because normally Lay’s is my favorite chip brand overall.
