Over the 4th, we took the girls to Hershey, PA. We spent 2 full days at amusement parks – HersheyPark and Dutch Wonderland. They had an AMAZING time!! I have a fun idea for a future post on that one!!
The third day was more mellow – going on a chocolate tour, visiting the Hotel Hershey, and finally winding down at the Hershey Gardens. At the Hershey Gardens, there’s a separate Children’s Garden area. Really fun and whimsical. Part of the Children’s Garden includes a butterfly garden. My girls were thrilled!
Before entering, they are given a lecture about not screaming, watching where you step and not touching. I thought this was going to be impossible!! It turned out to be not as bad as I thought. They did need some reminding about the voice level however.
We were given a card with all of the butterfly types to try and pick out within the garden.
I honestly can’t remember the names or which one was which, except I know there was a Monarch butterfly as well as a Queen. (I don’t know if these are them though!)
I was able to get surprisingly close to each butterfly. I thought for sure they’d be flying away as soon as the camera was in their face.
We were told that butterflies live 2 to 3 weeks and they can’t breed them fast enough because they don’t have all the necessary flowers for breeding. They need to ship new butterflies in on a regular basis.
Even though they were pretty, it did creep me out a title bit to be in such a confined area with lots of butterflies flying overhead.
What are your feelings on butterflies? Do you like them or are they just another insect?
Hope everyone’s week is off to a great start!

OH I think they’re gorgeous. They have a butterfly pavilion here at the Natural History Museum every Spring. It’s really beautiful. Then it switches to spiders in the fall and it’s really creepy! They have some HUGE spiders there.
Great Post!

These photos are GORGEOUS! I haven’t been to a butterfly garden in years though it is on our list of field trips for the coming homeschool year. I adore what you captured here!
