This past weekend my family and I had a Bat Mitzvah to attend. This meant one thing. I HAD to get myself a new outfit! Not because I just wanted to, I literally HAD to. I didn’t have anything in my closet that would work.
Before having kids I really enjoyed shopping. I could take my time looking around, spend my money on myself, and just enjoy the process. Since having kids it’s a different story. I always feel rushed – when am I going to get that “come home” phone call, feel guilty – should be buying THEM new clothes (or a new rug for my living room!) or just would rather be doing something else – go out with my camera, meet friends, etc.
So, I waited till the last minute ans went out on Friday (a day before the event) in search of an outfit. First I tried what was closest to me – Loehmann’s and Marshalls. NOTHING! Except a shirt in Loehmann’s that I loved that I may have to go back for! I had to go a little further now. I ended up at Dress Barn in Westchester. I think I was in that store one other time in my life. I wasn’t going to leave until I found something!
I did!
I saw these dresses as soon as I walked in and immediately liked them.
Simple and straight. I really liked the retro-ish feel to the neckline and the big button. My hopes were that they would have the color I wanted in my size – BLACK of course!
No good.
OK, my next choice was the orange-ish coral color. Still no luck.
Next I tried pink and yes, they had my size! By the way, yellow wasn’t even an option. I am not a fan of yellow! Even though I liked how it fit I had to tone down the pink so I went to Target and got a cropped black cardigan sweater. I also got black patent leather wedge shoes from DSW.
My last minute shopping tactic all worked out in the end. Except for my feet. Three days later and my toes still hurt from those shoes!
Does anybody know how to stretch shoes?
Do you like to shop when you HAVE TO or just when you WANT TO?

You know I love to shop for clothes! But my kids are older than yours. when they’re bigger shopping will get easier, i promise! i think your outfit looks great. I like the graphic combination of pink and black.

Thanks! I was actually thinking of you when I was shopping – “what would Heather think?” 🙂
