Family Art Project

Family Art Project

Sometimes on the weekends we take the girls to Wave Hill for their Family Art Project. They have a different project each weekend and it’s usually somehow tied in to nature.   Since we were basically homebound all weekend due to threats of a hurricane, we needed to come up with different projects to keep the girls occupied.   OK, I’ll be honest, it’s more about keeping them occupied so they don’t drive us crazy!! So, we decided to do our own family art project.

I’ll have to give the hubbs credit for coming up with this one.  On a recent trip to Staples, he came home with a tube of white paper. He thought it would be fun to make a mural.

The longest part of our apartment is the living room, so we rolled up the rug, and rolled out the paper.

Everyone took their own section and loaded up with markers, crayons and pencils.

We were all off to a good start – yes, even I got into the mix.

The hubbs was inspired by “Frog and Toad” since my older one was recently in the show this summer.

Yep – this is me in the eyes of my older daughter.

My little one wanted to draw a garden

I had Manhattan on my brain so a skyline was my choice. I got a little caught up with the tree though! 🙂

A day later, it’s still a work in progress, taped to my living room floor. Will it ever be done?

Were you in all weekend because of the storm? What did you do to pass the time?

Stacey what a GREAT idea for a hurricane weekend! Actually, what a great idea for an art project with small kids period. The long paper makes it fun and different from just drawing, and drawing on the floor is more fun than drawing on a boring table. I love it!!!!

Thanks Heather. When we were doing it I was thinking this would be a good activity at a birthday party. All the little kids sitting around the paper drawing in their own space. Then it would be a fun keepsake for the birthday kid!
