A couple of months ago I was scheduled to go to a workshop at B&H on Street Photography. I was really looking forward to it. I am completely fascinated by street photography! I love how real it is – capturing raw moments just as they happen. Nothing is staged and no stiff poses.
Just…life.
The day came and just as I’m sure what happens to most people, my day got crazy – kid stuff, work stuff, everything! I finally peeled myself away, headed to the subway just to find out the train wasn’t stopping at my stop. One thing lead to another and I ended up being 10 minutes late!
The class was packed! People sitting on the floor, standing in the aisles – it was crazy! Needless to say, I couldn’t get in. There just wasn’t any room for me. I was so bummed!! WAAHHH!!!
With 2 hours now to kill before meeting up with friends, I decided to walk the streets and practice what I came to learn. I headed towards Times Square and started shooting. This is what I took:
Pushing clothes racks near the garment district
Whopper Bar? When did that happen?
Happy couple…
Why is this guy wearing black leather gloves? It just doesn’t go with his outfit. Is he delivering that envelope? Is he worried about fingerprints? Why, I ask. Why?!?!?!
I love repeating patterns
This was my favorite photo of the day – the 2 poses. Was I the only one that noticed this?
My second favorite – can you read this guy’s sign? Do you also see the police in the background? 🙂
A dumpling truck in the middle of Times Square
and finally, The Tin man, making balloon hearts.
Although I missed the workshop, I was recently able to watch it online. The instructor Len Speier was great! Full of interesting stories and very personable. The kind of guy you’d want as your grandpa. I can see now why it was so packed that day!

Do you like street photography?

I love street photography and read the sartorialist, street style aesthetic and lee olivera every day. They’re fashion blogs but it’s all on the street! Fun stuff. Looks like a fun two hours.

I check out the Satorialist now and then but haven’t seen the others. Will give them a look!
