Yesterday I told you about my daughter’s Creative Arts birthday party. In our home, the kids get a 3 part birthday – a birthday party with friends, class birthday celebration and family dinner. This year my daughter wanted rice krispie treats for her class. I LOVE that request because it’s so easy to make!
We couldn’t just have plain old krispie treats though. We had to fancy them up!
I decided to make them purple since that is her favorite color. I doubled the recipe since I needed at least 30 pieces.
I’m assuming here that most people already know how to make rice krispie treats but maybe I shouldn’t assume. If you need to know the basic recipe, leave me a comment.
I wanted some practice with my iPhone camera so these were all taken with that.
After the marshmallow melts, this is where you add in the food color of your choice. I use gel coloring and it is very concentrated so a little goes a looooong way!
Mix it all up until it’s all incorporated and there’s no white left.
Mix in all of the rice krispies – and I also added some rainbow sprinkles.
I lightly sprayed a cookie sheet with Pam Baking Spray and then poured the whole batch onto it.
Spread it out evenly and press down to compact it. I had some blue candy melts so I melted them up and drizzled it on top, as well as added a few more sprinkles.
Once it was all dry and hardened a bit, I cut them up into squares and arranged them on a tray, covered in clear cello wrap and coordinating ribbon.
Even though I made these for a birthday, I think the colors work well for any Springtime celebration – like Easter – coming up this weekend!!
Do you have anything special you’ll be making for Easter or Passover?
