Today I’m sharing a recent headshot session I did for a 9 year old boy. Headshot sessions for boys are a bit different than for girls. The clothing and hair are usually pretty simple. As you can see with these images, we did a few minor wardrobe changes plus switched up his look with a bit of hair gel. I like to do both outdoor and indoor sessions for headshots to have more of a variety of looks. The same outfit photographed outside may have a different feel to it when photographed indoors under studio lights.
It’s funny because there are always 3 points of view when selecting favorite images. There are the ones that the agent selects that he/she knows will work for clients, there are the ones the mom likes the best because of a certain expression and then I always have my own personal favorites and that could be for expression or even for light. Sometimes we overlap and other times they’re all different!
I could definitely see him in a clothing ad!
Kids can get bored pretty easily so I like to keep moving and take frequent short breaks. He brought a little ball with him so we took breaks so he could play. We met in the morning so I even had him do some jumping jacks to get the blood flowing and wake him up a bit.
Sometimes agents request full body shots so I make sure to get a few of those in a well.
These next images were taken indoors with my studio lights. It’s a different look than with the outdoor natural light but I like to give a variety of looks and it’s good to keep the kids moving around.
I love the cute expressions in these shots. You can see a bit of mischief and playfulness in this kid!
