I have a really easy snack here for you to try. I made it and before I knew it, it was GONE! That’s the warning here – put some aside for yourself before sharing!
A lot of times when I go out to eat I like to try some fancier salads – especially the ones that have some kind of candied nut – whether it’s walnuts or pecans. I like a bit of crunch to my salad!
So I thought, why not try this at home – so I decided to make Candied Walnuts.
This recipe is for a pound of walnut halves.
In a pot I put 2 tablespoons of butter, 1/4 cup maple syrup, 2 tablespoons light brown sugar and a pinch of kosher salt.
Let it all melt together
and then mix the walnuts in. If you want smaller pieces, chop them up a bit before mixing into the pot.
On a sheet pan, either lay out a piece of parchment paper or spray with a non stick cooking spray, then pour the walnuts onto the sheet pan. Spread it out and put it into a 350 degree oven for 10 to 20 minutes. Each oven is different but remember, nuts toast quickly so stay close and start checking at the 10 minute mark.
As you can see here they get to a toasty brown color.
Let it cool of a bit and you’re done! They’re slightly sweet, lighter (less dense) and more crunchy.
These are great as a snack, a topping for your at-home salad bar, or you can even try it on ice cream! My family loved them! As I mentioned, gone before I knew it!
I want to experiment with different flavors and spices. Have you ever had candied nuts? What are your favorites?
