Last week we celebrated my mom’s 80th birthday. Wow, right?!? Aside from having a family party, my sister and I also wanted to get her something special. We know she loves photographs of the grandkids so we decided to do a special portrait. How convenient that her daughter is a photographer!!
I know most of you have difficulties photographing your own kids and believe me, I’m no different! Yes, photographing OTHER kids is what I love, I’m in the zone, it’s fun. My own are a whole other story!
My goal for this photoshoot was simple (so I thought!) – have all 4 kids look into the camera and be naturally happy. It’s the kind of image I know my mom would like.
While I do really like the images I’m about to show you (most of them), they aren’t what I was going after.
I love capturing a moment – they’re having fun together in this one but as you can see, not all are looking into the camera.
I chose this spot because the rock formation created a natural frame. But as you can see – eyes closed, mouths wide open.
These next 2 are halves from separate images – cute – but again, not what I needed.
I love this one but we’re missing the other half!
Uh…Next!!!
I was inspired to try this pose based on another photoshoot I did a few months back. Great expressions, right?!?
Finally this was the one we ended up with. Yes, I know my daughter isn’t quite looking into the camera but at some point you have to say “DONE is better than PERFECT”! I had it double mounted and printed to size 12 X 24. I love this unique size!
We presented it to my mom at her party. She loved it!
Next time you need a gift for a grandparent, consider a grandkids portrait! (and contact me to photograph them! )
