A couple of weeks ago I got to photograph Eytan and his family for his big day – his Bar Mitzvah! His actual Bar Mitzvah was during Shabbat so we met a couple of days earlier for a somewhat “pre-enactment” Eytan’s siblings, parents and both sets of grandparents all met at CSAIR in Riverdale, NY.
While these sessions are usually more formal and posed than other sessions I do, I still look for the storytelling moments as well as the fun, silly, in-between moments when the family isn’t really aware or paying attention to the camera and not having to worry about smiling all the time. They’re just “being“. I get it – it can be exhausting to hold a smile!
I like to mix black and white images with color. I don’t have a formula for which images I choose as black and white. It’s just a feeling I get.
Eytan was so pleasant and easy going. Especially boys I find don’t LOVE getting their photograph taken but he was such a great sport about it. I know he’ll appreciate these photographs even more as he gets older.
This is one of my favorites from the session. Yes it’s a posed photograph, but how great is it that all of the generations were there for this special day! It’s probably not often to have both sets of grandparents together. I know for me, we usually either visit my mom or we visit my husband’s parents, but I can’t even remember the last time my girls had all of their grandparents together. Maybe two Thanksgivings ago!
How sweet is this? Love!!
Who says posing can’t be fun?!?
Nothing better than kids just being kids!
Eytan with the important men in his life. You can see how proud they are!
I feel so fortunate to be able to meet such great families and make a real connection with them.
Do you have a son or daughter having a mitzvah soon? I know all of the planning can feel stressful and take the fun out of what’s supposed to be a special time in your family’s life. I can help ease the stress in at least one area! 🙂 Contact me if you’d like to discuss how I can document your family’s special day.
