I love doing kids and family photo sessions! So much fun being an observer to other people’s family dynamics!
This recent photo session took place in Morningside Park in Harlem NYC for Roger Maloney of Ufront Media Insights , his wife Monti and their 2 girls.
They enlisted the help of Karen from High Cotton Harlem for wardrobe assistance. My only direction to Karen was to “coordinate”, not “match”. As you’ll see from the images, they all looked great! I loved how each outfit really fit the individual personalities so everyone was comfortable with what they were wearing.
We started off near their building and made our way towards Morningside Park.
I think the outfits went really well together because of the neutral color palette and just adding in a pop of color with the purple. I thought it was also great that there was a variety of patterns like stripes, animal print and subtle dots but because they were all neutral it worked.
Because it was the end of Fall and most of the leaves had fallen, I think that worked in our favor so we weren’t competing with the rich deep colors of Autumn but more subtle hues as can be seen in this image of them by the steps. I like how there’s a flow of dried leaves on the ground below them.
The girls are adorable and so different in their personality types. One is sweet and sophisticated and the other goes a mile a minute! Can you guess which is which?
I love doing sessions in places that have meaning to the family – like here in Morningside Park where they come to go bike riding and look at the ducks in the pond.
Uh oh! Caught in the act!!
Stay tuned for an upcoming post as Karen and I discuss how to choose outfits for your photo shoot.
